Honest answer
What does an MS in the USA really cost for Indian students in 2026?
Numbers last checked: 2026-07-09
Short answer
Across the six US programs in our verified dataset, total cost (published tuition + realistic living costs, converted July 2026) ranges from about ₹59.3 lakh to ₹1.02 crore. The spread matters more than the average: Georgia Institute of Technology comes in around ₹59.3 lakh with the strongest published salary outcome in our set (median $138,500 from its own career survey), while some higher-priced programs offer no published outcome data at all.
Why the sticker-price comparison misleads
The cheapest and most expensive US options in our verified set differ by roughly ₹42.9 lakh — for degrees that a recruiter may treat as broadly similar. Georgia Institute of Technology charges international students in-state rates, which is why it lands near the bottom of the cost range while topping the outcome data.
Carnegie Mellon University at about ₹1.02 crore is the premium end — an elite program with strong placement, but you should price in that the salary advantage over a program like Georgia Tech's is smaller than the cost difference for many graduates.
Two honest caveats: only Georgia Tech and NJIT in our US set publish their own program-level starting salaries — every other salary figure is a market band, not a university outcome. And all US entries carry the 2026 H-1B structural risk (see our H-1B guide), which is independent of what you paid.
